Quibbling Over Semantics?

You say "Insurgent" and I say "Terrorist".

Definition of Insurgent:
noun - A rebel or revolutionary

Definition of Terrorist:
noun - A person who uses terrorism in the pursuit of political aims.

Given the use of the word Insurgent, one would draw the conclusion that the attacks on our soldiers and innocent civilians in Iraq would be the responsibility of an Iraqi REBEL group that wants an end to our occupation there and the beginning of their own sovereignty.

However, since the overwhelming majority of murderous attacks perpetrated in Iraq are done by foreigners, I would think that the Insurgent or Rebel label is wrong.

The appropriate way to describe those who carry out murderous attacks used to intimidate Iraqi citizens and lessen support for the War here in America, would be Terrorist.

Unfortunately, all major news networks (including Fox News!) continue to label the thugs who kill our brave men and women and innocent civilians with hidden bombs and sniper attacks in Iraq as Insurgents!!

Did anyone ever look up the word in the dictionary before giving these animals such a favorable description? Or, did we not want to offend filthy murderers by calling them Terrorists?

You make a good point. It's important we get our terminology right to verify who is what.

The people who are murderous, Taliban and al Qaeda loving, kill all white-westerners, interpret the Koran in a certain way to prove their point, oppress women and kill innocent people, should be given on term.

People who are sick and tired of the American invasion and occupation, who want a free, soveriegn, self-determined Iraq, national liberationists, should be given another term.
