...And Then What?

For 7 years we've heard the hyperventilating chicken littles screaming for the closure of Guantanamo Bay. Outrageous claims of the U.S. violating human rights for the detainees have pervaded just about every debate of Guantanamo for years. This, despite the fact that it has been visited with unfettered access by human rights groups, reporters, lawyers and UN officials countless times without any hint of torture or denial of basic rights.

In fact, according to U.S. authorities: the detainees are supplied with Islamic religious items including a Koran, prayer mat, and cap; loudspeakers in the camps broadcast the Muslims' call to prayer five times each day; all prisoners' meals are certified halal (adhering to Islamic law) by Guantanamo's Muslim chaplain; religious services are held for the prisoners; every cell has a stenciled arrow pointing toward Mecca, so that prisoners may face the correct direction while saying their prayers; Guantanamo's library is well stocked with Islamic literature; many of the detainees' complaints are known to have been either exaggerated or fabricated; and between April 2002 and March 2003, the detainees had by no means suffered any effects of alleged malnutrition, but in fact had gained an average of 13 pounds apiece. All of these assertions have been verified by independent observers.

Doesn't sound like they have it too bad if you ask me. But, leftist talking points are rarely based in truth. They are more concerned with gaining power than the well being of our nation.

Either way, they got their wish. President Obama has issued an executive order to close Guantanamo within a year. Now, the debate is what to do with them! Can you believe that? All these calls to close Guantanamo and no one has thought about just what we're going to do them!

I am 100% behind John Boehner's suggestion of sending them to Alcatraz. Right in Nancy Pelosi's district! I am sure they'll have a bunch of locals who are supporting them. However, the Shrew of San Francisco doesn't think it was too funny, but why not? I mean, they've had 7 years of good living and beautiful weather in Cuba, why not let them experience the seasons at San Francisco Bay?
